O Holy Night (בצרפתית: Cantique de Noël או !Minuit Chretiens, ובעברית: לילה קדוש) הוא מזמור חג המולד ידוע משנת 1847, אותו הלחין המלחין הצרפתי אדולף אדם וחיבר פלאסיד קאפו. מזמור חג המולד מדבר על לידת ישו ועל גאולת האנושות.

היסטוריה

בשלהי 1843 שופצה הכנסייה ברוקמואר. כדי לחגוג את המאורע, התבקש פלאסיד קאפו, יליד העיר, לכתוב שיר הקשור לחג המולד. קאפו נענה להצעה והחל בכתיבת השיר. בסמוך לכך, אדולף אדם החל להלחין אותו.[1]

לבסוף, לאחר שהותאם הלחן של אדולף אדם למילותיו של פלאסיד קאפו, ביצעה אמילי לורי לראשונה את השיר במלואו.[1]

O Holy Night הוקלט בשנת 1994, על ידי הזמרת-יוצרת האמריקאית מריה קארי. השיר יצא לאור בנובמבר 1994, כסינגל השלישי והאחרון מתוך אלבומה הרביעי, Merry Christmas. לשיר צולם וידאו קליפ מלא.[3]

רקע

בשנת 1994, הוציאה קארי את אלבום חג המולד הראשון שלה, Merry Christmas. תחילה, הוציאה את הלהיט הבינלאומי "All I Want for Christmas Is You",[5] כסינגל הראשון מתוכו. בהמשך, החליטה להוציא את "Joy to the World" כסינגל השני מתוכו.[6]

לבסוף, הקליטה את השיר הזה מחדש, אותו הוציאה כסינגל השלישי והאחרון מתוך האלבום.[7]

וידאו קליפ

בתחילת הקליפ, ניתן לראות את מריה קארי, באמצע כנסייה, לבושה בשמלה אדומה. בהמשך, פסנתרן מתחיל לנגן את השיר, ואליו מצטרפת קארי. לאורכו של הקליפ, שרה קארי את השיר, תוך שמאחוריה ניתן לראותה מקהלה, המוסיפה קולות רקע.[8]

נכון ליוני 2019, מונה הצפיות של הקליפ עומד על כ-55 מיליון צפיות.[8]
