מנרה ממעוף הציפור
סמוך להר שנאן, באחד האתרים הגבוהים בגליל העליון, הוקם בשנת 1943קיבוץמְנָרָה, שנקרא תחילה בשם הערבי של המקום. סמוך להקמתו הציע זאב וילנאי לוועדת השמות של הקרן הקיימת לישראל שם עברי למקום: רָמִים (על יסוד שגיאת לואה: too many expensive function calls.ספר תהלים, פרק ע"ח, פסוק ס"ט). אולם חברי הקיבוץ סירבו להשתמש בשם החדש והמשיכו לקרוא לו בהגייתו הערבית מַנָארָה. בספרו של יהודה זיורגע של מקום מופיעה אנקדוטה. יום אחד יצאה קבוצת בחורים מהקיבוץ לכיוון רמות נפתלי על מנת לפגוש קבוצת בנות שחזרו מבית הספר החקלאי בנהלל. בדרך שאל אותם עובר אורח: "מי אתם?", והם השיבו: "אנחנו מרמים", "ולאן אתם הולכים?", הוסיף ושאל, "לרמות" הייתה התשובה. ב-1964 אושר רשמית השם מְנָרָה, שמקורו בשם הערבי המקורי שמשמעותו מינרט או מגדלור, במקום השם "רמים" שהיה השם הרשמי מאז קום המדינה. השם הקודם נשמר בשמו של רכס רמים עליו ממוקם הקיבוץ.
