צלבי דארטמור

צלבי דארטמור (באנגלית: Dartmoor crosses) הם מקבץ של כמאה ושלושים צלבי אבן בגדלים שונים הפזורים ברחבי הפארק הלאומי דארטמור שבדרום-מערב אנגליה. צלבי דארטמור מהווים תופעה ארכאולוגית ייחודית באנגליה בפרט ובעולם בכלל. הצלבים נחצבו והוצבו ברובם ככל הנראה לפני כאלף שנה, במהלך שלהי התקופה האנגלו-סקסונית. הצלבים מוקמו למטרות שונות, לרבות לצורכי ניווט, סימון דרכים בין מנזרים וקביעת גבול בין קהילות שונות. לעיתים הם גם שימשו בתור אנדרטאות, ציון מקומות תפילה ועיטורי קברים.[1] במהלך העת החדשה המאוחרת, החל גל נוסף של הקמת צלבים חדשים הנמשך עד ימינו. במסגרת זאת תושבים באזור הקימו צלבים חדשים, לעיתים רבות גבוהים למדי ביחס לצלבים המקוריים. צלבים מודרניים אלו שימשו בעיקר למטרות הנצחה ועיטור קברים.

לאורך השנים צלבים רבים אבדו, נעקרו, קרסו ונגנבו. לעיתים רבות אפשר למצוא כיום בדארטמור צלבי אבן שרק בסיסם שרד, לאחר שבחלוף הזמן נפלו זרועותיהם. לא פעם תושבים מקומיים לקחו צלבים לשימוש כחומר גלם לבנייה. לכן אפשר להבחין ברחבי מקומות רבים בדארטמור בצלבים המשמשים כיום בתור משקופי דלתות, רכיבם בגדרות חצרות וחלקים מקירות לבנים. לפיכך, מתוך מאות צלבי אבן שהיו בדארטמור לפני מאות שנים, כיום עומדים לרשותנו כ-130 בלבד. גובהם הממוצע של הצלבים עומד על כ-1.7 מטר, ורבים מהם מהווים דוגמה קלאסית לצלבים גבוהים.
